Description
Pieces in this series focus on scenes and objects in nature, which are specifically identified in the title - in this case, Spanish moss. From that natural, original photographic element, arises the artist's additional interpretations through creative abstract digital exploration.
Spanish moss, native to Mexico, Central America, South America, the U.S., and the Caribbean, often grows on live oak trees. It isn't a moss at all, but a bromeliad—a perennial herb in the pineapple family. Most bromeliads, including Spanish moss, are epiphytes. Epiphytes grow on other plants, but do not rely on them for nutrients. They take nutrients from the air and debris that collects on the plant.
While abstract art doesn't specifically represent external reality, but exists somewhat independently of it and may seek to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures, it can, as in the case of this art piece, take specific realistic elements as springboards for creative excursions - emotionally and metaphorically.
