Seen through a round high window in the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine, Florida, is a portion of a well-known architectural detail, with its lion motif and distinctive Spanish Renaissance Revival style, of what once was the Alcazar Hotel. The soft golden glow of the interior wall of the museum and the crossbars of the window serve as frames for the exterior scene.

The Lightner Museum is a museum of antiquities, mostly American Gilded Age pieces, housed within the historic hotel, which was opened by Henry Flagler on December 25, 1888. The building was designed by Carrere and Hastings and constructed by McGuire and McDonald, with the supervising architect J. W. Ingle. Today the building houses the St. Augustine City Hall along with the museum. The design of the Alcazar was inspired by the royal palace in Seville, Spain. The hotel was placed on the National Historic Register in 1971.

Although much of my career had been in editing and writing, I have been delighted for some time to concentrate on both photography and artistic creations based on photography. Through this medium I thoroughly enjoy the world, from city to suburb to country, from my roots in the US Midwest to fascinating Florida, to Ohio, where I now live.
