Description
This is an original building of the era of Colonel Isaac Trabue (1831-1907), one of the founders of the city of Punta Gorda, Florida. The building is now part of the History Park in the city. The sign hanging from this historic building lists his name and title as well as indicating some of the business of the time in land sales of farms and lots. Trabue, was a lawyer who came to Florida from Kentucky and wanted to create his own town. Till 1888 that town was called Trabue. But other founders incorporated the town without him and renamed it Punta Gorda, which means fat point. In the window of this wooden, white-sided building, the lush tropical landscape is reflected.
