Description
Just inside the main entrance of the Flagler College lobby in St. Augustine, Florida, a private four-year liberal arts college, founded in 1968, one looks up to this beautifully detailed, intricate display above. This building, the centerpiece of the campus, was part of the opulent Ponce de León Hotel, built in 1888. The architects were John Carrere and Thomas Hastings, working for Henry Morrison Flagler, the industrialist, oil magnate and railroad pioneer. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

What a wonderful find. Your choice of framing is interesting. I'm so amazed when I see ceilings like this. It seems an impossible feat. This is very beautiful with the gold tones and that warm purple tone mixed with gold and the center star...it must take your breath away on site. LF

Thank you, Julie. Yes, these creations amaze us, don't they. I always think of the people doing such work and the exquisite care and talent and the time involved.
