Description
This cute little semipalmated plover has grabbed itself some lunch. It's pulling that nice worm out of the stretch of sand left by the receding tide. The colors of the artistic treatment of this idyllic little part of the beach are in the soft pastels you'd look for in the sand and sea environment - blues and pinks and lavenders and greens and yellows in soft patterns. And, of course, the star of the scene sports a brown and white suit and natty black collar, and black-tipped orange bill.
These cheeky little plovers (Charadrius semipalmatus) are winter visitors in US coastal states from the Carolinas to California and south. They hunt by running quickly, stopping to take a look, and then stabbing their prey. They nest in Alaska and northern Canada.
