In this unusual view, we see Grays Harbor lighthouse, in Washington state, across a field and tucked into its circle of trees. Built by architect Carl W. Leick, the structure stands 107 feet tall, and the octagonal tower is the tallest lighthouse in Washington and the third tallest on the West Coast. The dedication and lighting ceremony was held on June 30, 1898
The lighthouse is on Point Chehalis at the entrance to Grays Harbor, Westport. The structure is built of brick, concrete, and sandstone. The town of Grays Harbor is named after Captain Robert Gray, a Boston fur trader, who discovered it in May 1792. Although the lighthouse was originally 400 feet from the high tide mark, today it is over 3000 feet from shore because of accretion caused mostly by the jetty system in the harbor.
Although much of my career had been in editing and writing, I have been delighted for some time to concentrate on both photography and artistic creations based on photography. Through this medium I thoroughly enjoy the world, from city to suburb to country, from my roots in the US Midwest to fascinating Florida, to Ohio, where I now live. My artistic interests are eclectic. Much engages me. I hope my art will please and engage you as well.
