Description
I was surprised to see this napping kangaroo. I'd never imagined I'd see one on its back like this. The body language reminds me of that of a cat, lazing the day away, or a dog looking for a belly scratch. It wasn't just this one that was napping like this. Several others in the mob (the name of a group of kangaroos) were enjoying their rest like this as well. The red dirt environment wouldn't look too comfy to me, but the animal seemed perfectly happy with it - and the expression looks like a little smile. This scene was found at Busch Gardens in Tampa, Florida.
The kangaroo (a macropod - a term meaning large foot) is a marsupial from the family Macropodidae. All animals in this family are native to Australia.
Featured in the ABC group September 2019.
