Description
The killdeer, Charadrius vociferus, is a plover of medium size. While it is classified as a shorebird, you can often see them without going to the beach, as they are found regularly on lawns and fields. These birds nest on the ground and will often use what's called a broken wing act to distract would-be predators and lead them away from the nest. I can attest to the fact that they are very good actors. The first time I saw one and noted this sort of display, I was absolutely convinced that I'd come upon a bird that was badly hurt. I soon learned otherwise though. The bird's common name, killdeer, comes from the sound of its call.
Note that this particular design is one that's known as a transparent design. That is, for the print, the background color is set by the artist, but for the other products, you may choose any background color you like during the ordering process (without committing until you're sure), retaining just the design of the bird and text on that background. Also notice that there are lots more colors available than just those shown in the original swatches you'll see. Just click the "show more colors" option to find them.

Exquisite. Love the buyer's choice of a print on wood. Congratulations on the sale.

I do love the tones of the background here and the presentation that gives it a subtle book illustration look. Clean and simple. This is my Pick of the Day in the Best of Minimalism in Photography group for January 9.

Thank you, Nikolyn. I thoroughly appreciate the support, the choice, and the comment.
