Description
Lulu is an example of the breed of Florida cattle known as cracker cattle. She is a particularly well-known and beloved resident of the Babcock Ranch near Punta Gorda, Florida, because she had three, rather than the normal two, horns. She is, unfortunately, no longer with us in the living flesh, but she remains as a result of the taxidermist's art. Cracker Cattle are descended from Spanish stock imported to North America in the sixteenth century, They're a small, tough, horned breed well adapted to the rigors of the Florida landscape. The term "cracker" comes from the crack of the Florida cowboys' whips used to drive the cattle out of the rough palmetto scrub.
