Description
The light is soft and the colors are natural pastels of pink and blue in this image of a roseate spoonbill (Platalea ajaja) seen in profile with reflection and searching for food in the still waters. This unusual looking bird uses its flattened bill to strain food items out of the water and silt. This pretty specimen was found in Florida and they're common in coastal areas of Louisiana and Texas as well. Its pink coloring leads some tourists to believe they've seen a flamingo, but the birds are quite different in appearance. The brightness and tone of their pink coloring is dependent on their diet (as is the case with flamingos) and can vary quite a lot.
