Description
The spotted moray eel (Gymnothorax moringa) was hanging out at the Florida Aquarium in Tampa in the sea grass and coral and backed by brilliant blue. Morays always look quite threatening, with their open mouths, as though they are just about ready to bite. But what they're actually doing is breathing. These snaky looking sea creatures don't look like fish but are. Other common names for this fellow are conger, spotted eel, red moray, speckled moray, white cong, white jawed moray, white-chinned moray and white-jawed moray eel. Their bite can be dangerous to humans because of the pulling effect after they bite and because of possible toxins. They inhabit the western Atlantic, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean.
