Description
An osprey (Pandion haliaetus) and an anhinga (Anhinga anhinga), startled, take wing from a leafless tree at the same time. the osprey's wings are spread wide, and it has just cleared the branch it has been sitting on. The anhinga's feet still touch the branch, but the wings are wide, just in the moment of lift.
Ospreys are also called fish eagles, sea hawks, river hawks, and fish hawks. Ospreys' diet consists primarily of live fish, and they dive into the water to catch them. The osprey is the only species in its family and is found worldwide. Cormorants are common across North America and are experts at diving to catch small fish.
