Description
The tawny frogmouth (Podargus strigoides) is not an owl, although it's often mistaken for one. This unusual looking bird, which seems almost to be covered in bark, is found throughout Australia and Tasmania. These birds are nocturnal, and during the day, they perch low down on branches, as this one is doing, well camouflaged, appearing to be part of the tree.
