The view of the drawbridge and battlements of the historic Castillo de San Marcos at St. Augustine, Florida, is empty of people in the light of the low sun, which looms above the walls. This is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States. Located on the western shore of Matanzas Bay, the fort was designed by the Spanish engineer Ignacio Daza. Construction began in 1672, 107 years after the city's founding by Spanish Admiral and conquistador Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, when Florida was part of the Spanish Empire. After Britain gained control of Florida in 1763, the fort was renamed Fort St. Mark until 1783 when it was transferred back to Spain. Finally, Florida was ceded to the United States in 1821. Possession of the fort changed six times, all peacefully, among four government entities: Spain, Great Britain, the Confederate States of America, and the United States of America.

Although much of my career had been in editing and writing, I have been delighted for some time to concentrate on both photography and artistic creations based on photography. Through this medium I thoroughly enjoy the world, from city to suburb to country, from my roots in the US Midwest to fascinating Florida, to Ohio, where I now live. My artistic interests are eclectic. Much engages me. I hope my art will please and engage you as well.
