Description
The pair of sandhill cranes (Grus canadensis) walk so closely through the tall grasses at Myakka River State Park in Florida that they seem nearly to blend into one. The two regal heads just overlap, as we see them making their way together. The common name comes from their habitat, such as that near the Platte River in Nebraska (near the prairie area called sandhills) which is one of their flyways, used by about 75% of their population during migrations. Some of these cranes are winter visitors and some decide to make Florida their permanent home and don't migrate at all.
