Description
One might think of a pigeon as a common and rather lowly bird on the beauty hierarchy, but the Victoria crowned pigeon (Goura victoria) certainly puts the lie to that assumption. With its glorious lacy crest with white tips, lilac breast, blue-gray feathers, and red eye, it has every right to strut its stuff with confidence. Named after the British Queen Victoria, this large pigeon is native to the region of New Guinea. It is said to have a very loud, whooping mating or warning call.
