At the entrance to the Missouri State Capitol building in Jefferson city is found statehood statue and the information that Missouri was admitted to the Union as a state in 1821. The Missouri State Capitol is notable for its architectural features, including its eight 48-foot columns on the south portico and its six 40-foot columns on the north side, its 30-foot-wide grand stairway; and its bronze front doors, each 13 feet by 18 feet--at the time, the largest cast since the Roman era. The first state capitol building in Jefferson City was built in the period of 1823-1826 and was destroyed by fire in 1837. A new capitol building had been approved at the time and was completed in 1840. The second capitol was destroyed by fire on February 5, 1911, when a bolt of lightning struck the dome. The present capitol was built in the period of 1913-1917 and stands upon the same spot as its predecessor, high atop a bluff overlooking the Missouri River.
Although much of my career had been in editing and writing, I have been delighted for some time to concentrate on both photography and artistic creations based on photography. Through this medium I thoroughly enjoy the world, from city to suburb to country, from my roots in the US Midwest to fascinating Florida, to Ohio, where I now live. My artistic interests are eclectic. Much engages me. I hope my art will please and engage you as well.
