Description
This brilliantly painted wall and the umbrella displayed in front of it constitute one of the many wonderfully bright and colorful scenes in Matlacha (pronounced mat-la-shay), a small fishing town and an artist enclave on a little spit of land on the southwest Florida coast. All the storefronts are full of eclectic imagery, energy, and displayed elements. The area lies between the mainland and Pine Island and is part of the Cape Coral - Fort Myers statistical metropolitan area. In 2010, it had a population of 677. Lots of adjectives have been applied to this one-of-a-kind old Florida place, and all guarantee a fine time for visitors: funky, unique, quaint, free-spirited, energetic, bright, tropical, historic.
