Description
Deep in the hold of a sailing ship, a cask, circled by metal rims, sits upon shipping crates. Nearby, an antique ship's lantern lights only its immediate environment warmly. Behind them hang ropes at the ready. This ship is the Star of India, moored in San Diego Harbor. The full rigged iron windjammer is the world's oldest active ship, launched in 1863. It is part of the Maritime Museum of San Diego, which restores, maintains, and operates historic vessels. The museum has one of the world's finest collections of historic ships.
