This black and white image shows two white tables, each with four white chairs, in a small eating area in the lobby of the Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. The view is straight down from the classic curving staircase also in this area, and the shadows cast by the dramatic glass ceiling create a graphic design of their own.
The spectacular museum houses the largest collection of the artist's work outside Europe. The futuristic glass entryway and skylight is made of 1.5 inch thick glass. Referred to as the "Enigma", the entryway is 75 feet tall and encompasses a spiral staircase. The remaining walls are composed of 18-inch thick concrete, designed to protect the collection from hurricanes.
Dali's full name is Salvador Domingo Felipe Jacinto Dalí i Domènech, 1st Marquess of Dalí de Púbol. The flamboyant artist was a prominent Spanish surrealist born in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain on May 11, 1904. He died January 23, 1989, in Figueres.
Although much of my career had been in editing and writing, I have been delighted for some time to concentrate on both photography and artistic creations based on photography. Through this medium I thoroughly enjoy the world, from city to suburb to country, from my roots in the US Midwest to fascinating Florida, to Ohio, where I now live. My artistic interests are eclectic. Much engages me. I hope my art will please and engage you as well.
