The black-bellied whistling duck family, a mom and four ducklings, paddles across the blue water and toward an area of bright light. It rather made me think of traveling into a future, not yet known. Mom leads, of course, and the kids form an obedient line behind her.
The black-bellied whistling duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis) is now native to Central and South America and to the southern United States. These five were found in Port Charlotte, Florida, at a lovely little pond-marsh area called Ollie's Pond. These are gregarious birds, sometimes gathering in large flocks, and they can be noisy with their whistling call. The bird is sometimes called the black-bellied tree duck after their habitual nesting habitat of hollow trees.
Although much of my career had been in editing and writing, I have been delighted for some time to concentrate on both photography and artistic creations based on photography. Through this medium I thoroughly enjoy the world, from city to suburb to country, from my roots in the US Midwest to fascinating Florida, to Ohio, where I now live. My artistic interests are eclectic. Much engages me. I hope my art will please and engage you as well.
