Artist's Description
This osprey (Pandion haliaetus) has chosen the top of a light pole for its nest - perhaps not the wisest choice of nesting sites. But there's the bird posing proudly atop the seemingly messy creation of sticks hanging down and intertwined with the electric wires of the town's lighting connection. The sky behind provides a lovely background of soft pastels.
This impressive bird is sometimes called a fish hawk. Fish make up about 99% of this bird's diet, so it almost always found near water, as it was here, in the town of Matlacha (pronounced mat-la-shay), Florida.
