Mountains rise behind this building in the fishing village of Petersburg, Alaska. The sky and building are reflected in the water at the building's edge. Petersburg, Alaskas Little Norway, was founded more than 100 years ago by Norwegian fishermen. It was named for Peter Buschmann, a Norwegian immigrant who arrived in the late 1890s and homesteaded on the north end of Mitkof Island. He built a cannery, a sawmill, and a dock between 1890 and 1900. His family's homesteads grew into Petersburg, which was populated largely by people of Scandinavian origin. The cannery has operated continuously since its completion. Petersburg is now one of Alaska's major fishing communities.
Although much of my career had been in editing and writing, I have been delighted for some time to concentrate on both photography and artistic creations based on photography. Through this medium I thoroughly enjoy the world, from city to suburb to country, from my roots in the US Midwest to fascinating Florida, to Ohio, where I now live. My artistic interests are eclectic. Much engages me. I hope my art will please and engage you as well.

What a fine image - love the reflection and especially the birds. They just bring this fine old building to life. Great description, too. I enjoyed it.
