This lovely little wildflower is a spiderwort (Tradescantia genus). Its delicate blues are graced by the bright yellow stamens at its center. These are perennial flowers native to North America from southern Canada to South America in Argentina. There are both cultivated and naturalized varieties, also known as widow's tears and Job's tears. This is likely Tradescantia virginiana, commonly called spider lily, which is a clump-forming herbaceous perennial,attractive to bees, which grows up to 3' tall. Violet-blue to purple, three-petaled flowers open, a few at a time, each for only one day, from terminal clusters (umbels) containing numerous flower buds. Flowers bloom in succession from late May into early July.
Although much of my career had been in editing and writing, I have been delighted for some time to concentrate on both photography and artistic creations based on photography. Through this medium I thoroughly enjoy the world, from city to suburb to country, from my roots in the US Midwest to fascinating Florida, to Ohio, where I now live.
