Artist's Description

In the midst of the antique district of the town of Arcadia, Florida, stands the Old Heard Opera House, built in 1906 and registered with the U.S. Department of the Interior as a Historic Place. While the town was settled in 1883 and incorporated in 1886, it burned nearly to the ground in 1905 on Thanksgiving night. Only three brick buildings remained. The town had learned its lesson and thereafter rebuilt with only brick or block. Most of those buildings still remain, including the opera house.

In this image, the colorful sign and historic building is backed by a dramatic blue sky and white clouds.

About Mitch Spence

Mitch Spence

Although much of my career had been in editing and writing, I have been delighted for some time to concentrate on both photography and artistic creations based on photography. Through this medium I thoroughly enjoy the world, from city to suburb to country, from my roots in the US Midwest to fascinating Florida, to Ohio, where I now live. My artistic interests are eclectic. Much engages me. I hope my art will please and engage you as well.
