Description
This is one of the wild white dogwoods (Cornus florida) that grow and bloom in glorious profusion each spring near the Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri. This one is backed by a rustic home with a bright red roof, shining in the rain. These trees are found throughout the eastern half of the United States. It is the state tree of Virginia and state flower of North Carolina. The white petals of the dogwood flower are actually leaf-like growths called bracts.
