Description
Pieces in this series focus on scenes and objects in nature, which are specifically identified in the title - in this case, the geometric, fluidly diamond-shaped forms of a pine cone. From that natural, original photographic element, arises the artist's additional interpretations through creative abstract digital exploration.
Pine cones don't all look alike. There's an astounding variation in their forms, especially when seen closely, as was this cone from a slash pine. Such a small ubiquitous piece of nature is something we'd usually consider unremarkable, but when we envision it from this fresh vantage point and provide it with subtle and changing hues of blues and purples, shimmering in the light, it suddenly takes on the aura of the world of the imagination.
While abstract art doesn't specifically represent external reality, but exists somewhat independently of it and may seek to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures, it can, as in the case of this art piece, take specific realistic elements as springboards for creative excursions - emotionally and metaphorically.
