Description
Pieces in this series focus on scenes and objects in nature, which are specifically identified in the title - in this case, slash pine bark. From that natural, original photographic element, arises the artist's additional interpretations through creative abstract digital exploration.
The slash pine, Pinus elliottii, is native to the southeastern United States. Its bark is scaly and platelike. The name comes from its environment in which the swampy ground overgrown with trees and brush seems like a slash across the landscape.
While abstract art doesn't specifically represent external reality, but exists somewhat independently of it and may seek to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures, it can, as in the case of this art piece, take specific realistic elements as springboards for creative excursions - emotionally and metaphorically.
