Description
The Florida panther, Puma concolor coryi, is a subspecies of the North American cougar (also known as mountain lion or puma). It is in extreme danger of extinction, with, it was estimated in 2017, only between 120 and 230 remaining in the wild in its natural habitat in south Florida. It lives in pine and mixed swamp forests. Many things have led to its decline, chief among them road kill and habitat loss. It is a strong and beautiful animal and an accomplished hunter, with a diet including, among others, deer, wild hogs, raccoons, armadillos, snakes, and even alligators. If you are driving in known panther areas, please, please slow down and watch for these amazing animals. And support all efforts to save the species. In this portrait, the impressive cat is shown with head and shoulders and showcased against a textured background.
