Description
You just don't think of a bird as having a facial expression, but this emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae), and emus in general, certainly do. And they inevitably make us smile with that mixture of bright attention, a certain amused look, and an overall attitude that makes us think they'll start to talk to us at any second and probably tell us a joke. The view of this bird is of head and neck and is backed by an textured wooden wall in soft greens. The emu, from Australia, is the world's second largest bird by height, surpassed only by the ostrich, from Africa. The emu is flightless, but it certainly can run, at about 30 mph in a sprint.
