Description
A Kemp's ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys kempii) at Sea Turtle, Inc., the sea turtle rescue center on South Padre Island in Texas, treads water while waiting to be released after its rehabilitation in the facility. The Kemp's ridley is the rarest species of sea turtle and is critically endangered. They are shallow water feeders whose diet consists primarily of crabs. Their range includes the US Atlantic coast and the Gulf of Mexico, and they prefer warmer water. This view shows the turtle's head above water.
