Description
The little blue heron standing on a rock just offshore, seems somehow bemused. There was a fish there, given the ripples and bubbles, but . . . no catch for the pretty, colorful little shorebird.
The little blue heron (Egretta caerulea) is a resident of wetlands and coastal areas in the southeast region of the United States. The young are almost completely white and resemble snowy egrets, and the young birds sometimes mix in with flocks of these birds. The adults change into this slate blue plumage. This individual was fishing at the shore of Charlotte Harbor in Port Charlotte, Florida.
